1952 On August 18th, in Houston, Texas, U.S.A, Patrick Swayze, an American actor, a dancer, a singer and a composer, was born. His father, Jessie Woyne Swayze, was an engineer, and his mother, Patsy Yvonne Helen Karnes, the choreographer and the owner of a dance school. The two had 5 children, 4 biological and an adopted one. Patrick was the second, having 2 younger brothers, Don and Sean and a bigger sister, Vicky Lynn, and his adopted sister, Bambi. He graduated Waltrip College in Houston and attended San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas. During high school, he excelled at football and gym and won an athletic scholarship, at college.

1972 He moved to New York, in order to study dance at Harkness Ballet School and at Joffrey Ballet School. As Prince Charming, he danced for the first time as a professional at “Disney on Parade”.

1975 On June 12th, he married the actress and dancer Lisa Niemi, a woman he had met when he was 15, at his mother’s dance school.

1979 He appeared in his first movie, as Ace Johnson, in “Skatetown, U.S.A”.

1981 He debuted on TV in the soap called “M*A*S*H”, like a soldier who is diagnosed with leukemia.



1987 The movie “Dirty Dancing” appeared, a romance in which the actor appears as the main character near Jennifer Grey. The film was done with few money, not with many stars, became a great hit box office. Until 2009 it had more than 214 million dollars receivables.

1989 After a considerable activity in movies and television, but also the choreography for “Grandview, USA” (1984), he got a nominalization for the Golden Globe for his role as a dance teacher in “Dirty Dancing” (1987).

1990 Another successful romance appeared, “Ghost”, where Patrick plays together with Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. It got the highest receivables in 1990, over 505 million dollars. The actor received another nominalization for the Golden Globe for the role in this screening.

During his career as an actor, Patrick appeared in many movies, as the main character, and also as a minor character. Here we mention: “Grandview, U.S.A “ (1984), “Next of Kin” (1989), “Saturday Night Live” (1990), “To Wong Foo”, “Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar” (1995), “Donnie Darko” (2001), One Last Dance” (2003), “Christmas in Wonderland” (2007), “Powder Blue” (2009).



1991 He was chosen by People magazine as being one the 50 most beautiful people in the world.

1998 He broke both his legs during filming “Letters from a Killer”.

1999 He got a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame.

2000 While he was travelling by his plane, from California to Las Vegas, he landed by emergency on a country road in a small community, Prescott Valley, in the North of Arizona, because of an engine problem. The actor survived this bad event.

2008 On January, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but he went on working for his projects. On February he was going to write his memoirs, together with his wife, Lisa Nemi, book which had to appear that autumn. He unsuccessfully fought against the sickness more than one year. On May, Patrick declared to mass media: “I undergo the treatment at Stanford (Academic Medical Center in San Francisco) and the good news is that I seem to evaluate in a positive way”, but it was not like this.

2009 On September 14th, Patrick Swayze died, because of the terrible disease that grinded him. Doctors say that the form of cancer he had must have killed him earlier, but the known actor fought against it 20 months. On May 12th, before dying, the book called “Patrick Swayze: One Last Dance” by Wendy Leigh appeared.

     While filming for "Powder Blue" (2009), Patrick said: "How would you feed a positive attitude when all the statistics say that you are dead? You go at work!"

     Posthumously, on September 29th, the memoirs he wrote with his wife, "The time of My Life" appeared [1].
